MODULE 3: LEADING IN THE CLASSROOM
Empowering Leaders
This course has changed my perspective on teaching and learning in so many different ways. I love learning and continually challenge myself by taking on extra learning projects. However, sitting on the other side of the classroom a student again has helped me to see learning in a whole new light, from the perspective of a student. I’ve seen how meaningful it is for students to be an integral part of the learning process in asking questions and setting the direction of their inquiry.
This module really resonated with me and I’m very proud of the work and learning that I’ve accomplished.
So many elements this week resonated with me from developing and empowering student leaders, to conducting and analyzing a safe schools survey, and using community connections to create learning opportunities for our students.
We need to prepare our students to become 21st century leaders. This module opened with a Ted Talk from Deborah Halperin on Empowering Students to Get Stuff Done. I look forward to preparing my students to be 21st century leaders and helping them to develop a network and create meaningful connections with their community.
For this module’s culminating project I drew on multiple elements from the week’s study. My desire was to develop a unit plan that I could use this upcoming school year that would address the needs identified in my Safe Schools Survey analysis. This unit also has multiple purposes and works to develop community connections and empower students to be leaders in their school for change, motivating and encouraging their peers in the fight against bullying.
